I used to have a safari company in Tanzania, Africa. I never made any profit in the safari business, but it was great going on safari where I wanted to paint with tourists from all over the world. This was painted when I was out with my best safari guide Focus Chami. We were watching the herd of wild buffalo and the birds flying overhead. The buffalo were always moving and they disturb the insects, and the birds overhead land and catch the larger insects. The lioness was walking to the long grass where we had our safari vehicle and there she lay down to sleep. The wild buffalo herd was well aware of the lioness in the daytime so the lioness would sleep in the hot day time and hunt in the dark cool night. Very few paintings are made showing the true interaction of the birds, buffalo, insects and lions.
